President Donald Trump stated on the weekend that he has invited the loved ones of a Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the presidential home.
He mentioned that he conversed with her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a violent incident on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in grave state.
Memorials across the state have been held in their honor.
The president explained he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the families of both individuals of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to honor her,” Trump informed the press. “And in the same way with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Attendees assembled over the past few days at Webster County high school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.
Both they had been serving with the military unit as part of Trump’s federal initiative to support policing efforts in the capital.
“She was the kind of student that instructors hoped for. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a positive energy that encouraged people around her,” the principal, the leader of her previous school, told the Associated Press. “She was kind, considerate and always willing to assist people.”
Memorial plans for Sarah are still being arranged.
Law enforcement have accused a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of murder and two counts of violent assault while armed.
The incident led the government to suspend asylum applications and halt providing visas to owners of passports from Afghanistan.
Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, started his military career in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, as reported by the news agency.
He is still undergoing care and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia governor the governor stated on television.
Attorney general Bondi stated on the program that she planned to speak to Wolfe’s family.
Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County high school in June 2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a military police officer with distinction, as stated by the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had bravery,” he addressed the gathering at the vigil. “Though her time ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to endure.”
