The collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination shared the debut comprehensive teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on Wednesday. The reveal happened in a dedicated Nintendo presentation that centered on the soon-to-release cartoon movie.
The follow-up to the 2023 hit film The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this new installment will send Mario to the outer limits of the universe. There, he will encounter a different royal figure and a challenging new adversary in Bowser Jr., the heir to Bowser's throne.
In the vein of the Wii console classics that serve as its inspiration, Mario will venture away from the cozy environment of the Mushroom Kingdom to journey through the cosmos. During his grand adventure, he will encounter once more some familiar faces, for instance the Luma, a popular character from the previous film.
But it appears Mario and his brother Luigi will battle a different foe in the form of Bowser's furious offspring, who apparently utilizes powers related to metal. Interestingly, the teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not exclusively centered on visuals from the Galaxy games; it also contains hints to further iconic releases like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
The film will welcome back of the original voice cast, with Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Fresh faces in the lineup for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will portray Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to play Bowser Jr. This was confirmed by the CEO of Illumination, Chris Meledandri.
The upcoming Mario film is planned to debut near the 40-year celebration of the initial Super Mario Bros. release. Apart from the cinematic release, 2026 promises to be a important time for Mario and his allies.
The company has a trio of new releases publicly declared for that year, such as Mario Tennis Fever, a Switch 2 edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a fresh Yoshi side-scroller titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is officially set to be released on April 3, 2026.
